Seahawk Women's Swimming Battles Washington College

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team (0-5) battled Washington College (2-3) Friday evening but fell short of the win in non-conference action.

St. Mary's – 70, Washington College – 133 

How It Happened
- The Seahawks would pick up two gold medals in the 200 freestyle and the 200 breaststroke.

- Senior captain Lizzie Straathof (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) would take the first gold of the day in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.67 while fellow captain Rachel Sonnenberg (Derwood, Md./Magruder) claimed third in 2:09.36.

- Sophomore Hailley Baughman (Lineboro, Md./Manchester Valley) would receive first-place honors in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:36.79, while senior captain Samantha Liming (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) took third in 2:45.68.

- Baughman would contribute to the team's second-place finish in the 400 medley relay (4:21.80) and was joined on the relay by first-year Carolyn Sutton (Laurel, Md./Laurel), B. Sonnenberg, and sophomore Samantha Schoenecker (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson).

- Sophomore Elizabeth Valenti (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) would earn two individual silver medals for the meet. Valenti would place second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.80 and come in second in the 500 freestyle in at 5:35.71.

- Valenti would also be a part of the 400 freestyle relay as she lead-off the second-place finish (3:55.02) alongside Schoenecker, Sutton, and Straathof.

- Liming would earn an individual silver medal in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking in at 11:43.33, while junior Emma Green (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) placed third in 11:44.41.

- R. Sonnenberg led the Seahawks in the 200 butterfly with a second-place finish in 2:26.54 while Sutton would add a silver medal in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:19.13.

- Straathof claimed a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle in 57.32 while sophomore Rachel Yates (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) paced St. Mary's in the 50 freestyle with a fourth-place finish in 26.87. 

Up Next for the Seahawks
- The Seahawks will host Ferrum College and McDaniel College in a non-conference double-dual meet tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
