Raab Becomes Fourth Swimmer to Earn St. Mary’s Athlete of the Month Honors

St. Mary's City, Md. – February marks the fourth consecutive month that a St. Mary's College of Maryland swimmer has been named the athlete of the month by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.  This time around, it was Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford) of the Seahawk women's swim team picking up the honor for the month of February.

The first-year swimmer garnered the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Co-Rookie of the Year award after helping the Seahawks to their fifth consecutive second-place finish at this year's CAC championship meet.  Raab, who specializes in the breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley events and collected four all-conference awards at this year's championship meet, is just the fourth Seahawk to pick up rookie of the year honors.

Raab started out the league championship meet with a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:11.24, finishing behind teammate junior Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) for a 1-2 Seahawk finish in the event.

She followed that up with another second-place finish, this time in the 400 individual medley in 4:37.53.  Raab once again helped St. Mary's to a 1-2 punch in the event as Wilton captured the 400 IM.  That same day, Raab anchored the school record-setting 800 freestyle relay which took second in 8:00.81.

Raab finished out her first CAC championship meet with third team All-CAC honors in the 200 breaststroke as she placed third in the event with a  school record time of 2:26.04.
