St. Mary's Women's Swimming Cruises to 11th Straight Win

Melbourne, Fla. – Sophomore Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and first-year Hannah Hafey (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) each scored two wins in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team (11-0) to a 107-60 non-conference victory over Division II Florida Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon.

O'Connor captured the 400 individual medley in 4:59.30 while serving as the anchor on the first-place 400 medley relay.

Hafey picked up an individual win in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.17 while junior Joanna Purich (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) finished third in 1:11.02.  Hafey was the lead-off on the winning 400 medley relay while notching a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 26.92.

First-year Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford) recorded an individual win in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.93 while junior Chelsea Gulliver (Frederick, Md./Urbana) captured the 100 freestyle in 59.09.  Junior Maddie Casey (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton) placed third in the 100 freestyle event in 1:03.40.

Junior captain Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) touched the wall first in the 500 freestyle in 5:29.21 while sophomore Hanna Rizkallah (Frederick, Md./Urbana) came in third in 6:01.80.

Sophomore Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was part of the winning 400 medley relay and took second in the 200 freestyle in 2:13.77 to pace the Seahawks in the event.

St. Mary's will return to action on Friday, January 13 as the Seahawks welcome Frostburg State University and the University of Mary Washington to the Michael P. O'Brien ARC Aquatics Center for a Capital Athletic Conference tri-meet at 12:00 pm.
