Heyde Earns CAC Weekly Award

York, Pa. – Junior captain Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending October 30 as announced by league commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Tuesday afternoon.

Heyde helped the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team open up the 2011-12 campaign undefeated for the fourth consecutive season as the Seahawks (3-0, 2-0 CAC) posted road wins over Catholic University of America, Marymount (Va.) University and Hood College.  She kicked off her junior year with five individual first-place finishes in two meets last week.

In a 132-73 season-opening win at Catholic on Friday, Heyde captured top honors in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.  She also chipped in a performance on the winning 200 medley relay against the Cardinals.

Heyde followed that Saturday afternoon with wins in the 1,000 freestyle, the 200 IM and the 200 butterfly as the Seahawks downed CAC rivals, Hood and Marymount, in a tri-meet at Arlington, Va.

Heyde owns the conference's top time in three events, the 100 backstroke, the 200 fly, and the 200 IM, while holding the second-best time in the 1000 freestyle.

St. Mary's will open up the home portion of the schedule on Friday, November 4 with a dual meet with Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 pm in the Michael P. O'Brien ARC Aquatics Center.
