St. Mary's Women's Swimming Remain in Second as Two Records Fall

Complete Day Two Results

St. Mary's City, Md. – Sophomores Chelsea Gulliver (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Md./Wilton) set two records on the second day of the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships helping the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team maintain their hold on second-place with 422 points on Saturday.

With her third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, Gulliver picked up her first career all-conference award in a school-record fashion.  She missed second place by eight hundredths of a second, touching the wall at 1:08.28 to break her own record that she set back in December (1:08.62).

Heyde registered her second straight NCAA provisional time with a CAC championship meet record in the 400 IM.  She defended her 400 IM title and shattered her own meet record (4:31.74) from last year by nearly three seconds.

St. Mary's received solid efforts from junior Chris DiMenna (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and sophomore Joanna Purich (Silver Spring, Md./Blake) in the 100 butterfly.  DiMenna placed fifth in the event in 1:01.31 while Purich captured the consolation finals for ninth overall (1:02.78).  First-year Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) notched a ninth-place finish in the 200 freestyle after winning the consolation finals of the event.

Both Seahawk relays – the 200 medley and 800 free relays – finished second.  Heyde was the lead swimmer of the 800 free relay while DiMenna led off for the 200 medley relay with the backstroke leg.

Other championship meet highlights included University of Mary Washington senior Adriana Lesiuk's (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth) NCAA 'B' cut in the 100 butterfly; senior Sarah Crockett's (Toano, Va./Lafayette) provisional qualifying time in the 200 freestyle; and Marymount University junior Anna Macedonia (Annandale, Va./Bishop O'Connell) NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 100 backstroke.

Mary Washington is well on its way to its 21st consecutive conference title as the Eagles owns 640 points after winning five of seven events.
