Seahawk Women's Swimming Wins Big at Salisbury as Heyde Picks up Two Pool Records
Salisbury, Md. – Sophomore Kelly Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) notched two pool records at the Maggs Center Swimming Pool in leading the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team to a dominating 152-53 Capital Athletic Conference victory over host Salisbury University Saturday afternoon.
Heyde recorded pool records in two of her three individual event wins – the 200m butterfly and the 200m breaststroke. She started the meet with a first-place win in the 50m freestyle (28.51) before swimming her pool record of the day in the 200m fly.
The Seahawks swept the 200m fly event with Heyde leading the way as she touched the wall in 2:24.75. Then she came in first in the 200m breaststroke in 2:47.21 for her second pool record of the afternoon.
First-year Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) captured two individual wins in helping the Seahawks (9-3, 3-1 CAC) to the win. O'Connor won the 800m freestyle (9:53.65) before being a part of the sweep of the 400m freestyle event as she touched the wall first in 4:53.71. O'Connor was then the leadoff swimmer for the first-place 400m freestyle relay.
Senior captain Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and first-year Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) swam the last two legs of the first-place 400m medley relay.
D'Ambrosio touched the wall first in the 200m freestyle in 2:23.45 before finishing second in the 200m breaststroke (2:50.73).
Sokolove led a sweep of the 200m individual medley event as she came in first in 2:34.65 and then wrapped up the meet with a second-place finish in the 400m freestyle (4:56.67).
Sophomore Chelsea Gulliver (Frederick, Md./Urbana) also won an individual event for the Seahawks as she placed first in the 100m freestyle (1:05.43) which St. Mary's swept.
The Seahawks will wrap up their regular season next Saturday, January 29 when they visit conference newcomer, Frostburg State University. The meet starts at 1:00 pm.
