Recapping the NCAA Swimming Championships
Minneapolis, Minn. – The 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships came to an end Saturday as did the stellar four-year career of senior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis).
Hotchko wrapped up her Seahawk career with a 44th-place
finish in the 100 freestyle in 54.21. This was a 16-spot
improvement as she finished 60th a year ago. To recap
Hotchko’s third consecutive trip to the NCAA
championships, she finished 20th in the 100 butterfly, 44th in the
100 freestyle and 46th in the 50 freestyle.
Hotchko finishes her career as a three-time NCAA qualifier and as a nine-time Capital Athletic Conference champion, including being the three-time defending CAC champion in the 100 butterfly. She also leaves the Seahawk swimming program as the holder of five school records.
The 2010 CAC Female Rookie of the Year, first-year Kelly
Heyde (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) fared well in her first trip
to the NCAAs with a pair of top 30 finishes. To recap
Heyde’s NCAA trip, she placed 25th in the
400 individual medley, 27th in the 200 butterfly and 31st in the
200 individual medley.
Kenyon College’s dominance of the NCAA swimming & diving championships continued as the Lords captured its 31st consecutive NCAA men’s championship title while Emory College unseated three-time defending champion, Kenyon, on the women’s side as the Eagles claimed their third title in six years.
The 2010 championships marked the fifth consecutive season that the Seahawks have had at least one representative at the NCAAs. The championships were being hosted by Beloit College and The College of Wooster at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
