St. Mary’s Third after First Day of CAC Championships

Mary Washington Sets Two CAC Meet Records

Timed Finals Results for Day One

St. Mary's City, Md. - The 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships kicked off Friday evening with timed finals at St. Mary's College of Maryland.  The traditional morning preliminary trials were canceled in response to transportation safety concerns for the six visiting teams as a result of the record snowfall in the Mid-Atlantic region.

University of Mary Washington, who is in search of its 20th consecutive conference title, got off to a fast start and lead the seven-team field with 288 points, claiming four of the evening's five events.  The Eagles set CAC championship meet records in the 50 freestyle and the 400 medley relay while notching six NCAA provisional times.

The Seahawks are currently third in the team standings with 151 points and posted an NCAA ‘B' cut in the 200 individual medley with freshman Kelly Heyde's (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) gold-medal performance in the event, edging UMW's senior Nina Michelle Sawyer (Warrenton, Va./Liberty) by 14-hundredths of a second.

Marymount University's sophomore Anna Macedonia (Annandale, Va./Bishop O'Connell) nabbed the other NCAA provisional of the evening with her second-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

TEAM STANDINGS: 1. Mary Washington 288, 2. Marymount (Va.) 158, 3. St. Mary's (Md.) 151, 4. York (Pa.) 98, 5. Salisbury 94, 6. Gallaudet 56, 7. Hood 48.
