Seahawks Drop 129-76 Decision at Mary Washington
Fredericksburg, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team won five events but succumbed to the University of Mary Washington by a 129-76 decision Saturday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference meet. The loss dropped the Seahawks to 5-3 overall (4-1 CAC), while Mary Washington improved to 5-0 overall (4-0 CAC).
200 Medley Relay: Senior captain Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), junior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis) and senior Eleanor Koerner (North Potomac, Md./T.S. Wootton) swam a 1:52.44 to capture the event.
1000 Free: Senior captain Nat Schaefer (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) placed fourth in 11:27.33, while junior Laura VanBlargan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) was fifth in 11:56.47.
200 Free: Hotchko took second in 2:03.71, while junior Monika Disque (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) placed fifth in 2:09.02.
50 Free: Koerner placed first in 25.44, while junior Dominique Perez (Rockville, Md./Holy Child) was fifth in 26.73.
200 IM: McDowell won the event in 2:12.31, while Sokolove was fifth in 2:25.07.
100 Fly: Hotchko captured the event in 1:00.09, while junior Anna Chiplis (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) finished fourth in 1:04.77 and freshman Katie Serfling (Frederick, Md./Urbana) was fifth in 1:05.45.
100 Free: Koerner placed second in 55.42, while freshman Christina DiMenna (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was fifth in 59.17.
100 Back: McDowell came in first in 1:00.50, while Disque placed fifth in 1:06.34.
500 Free: Schaefer was fourth in 5:42.62, while VanBlargan took fifth in 5:47.13.
100 Breast: Sokolove finished second in 1:13.45, while freshman Amanda Pazouki (Silver Spring, Md./JFK) was fourth in 1:15.14.
400 Free Relay: Perez, Disque, sophomore Arielle Webster (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and DiMenna placed third in 3:58.13.
The Seahawks return to action next Saturday, January 24 when St. Mary's travels to Salisbury University for its final conference meet at 1:00.
