McDowell Notches Third Weekly CAC Honor
York, Pa. - For the third time this season, St. Mary's College of Maryland's Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Female Swimmer-of-the-Week as McDowell earned the honor for the week ending January 27 as announced by CAC commissioner, Tom Byrnes, on Tuesday afternoon.
McDowell shared this week's honor with the University of Mary Washington's freshman Megan DeSmit as DeSmit took top honors in the 100 and 200 breast and contributed to the victorious 200 medley relay as the Eagles downed non-conference rival Gettysburg to finish the season with a 7-0 dual meet record.
McDowell captured three individual events as the Seahawks (6-3, 5-1 CAC) defeated Salisbury University, 133-72, and McDowell ended her senior campaign undefeated in dual meets.
The senior captain won the 800 short-course meter free with her time of 9:45.50, then placed first in the 200 SC meter IM in 2:32.77.
McDowell ended the meet by taking top honors in the 200 SC meter back event as she swam a 2:32.31.
St. Mary's will be back in the pool on Friday-Sunday, February 13-15 as St. Mary's hosts the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships.
