McDowell Receives Second Unanimous Athlete-of-the-Month Selection

St. Mary's City, Md. - Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa.), a member of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team, picked up her second unanimous selection for athlete-of-the-month as McDowell received the honor for the month February as voted on by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

The 5-8, senior captain helped St. Mary's to a second-place finish at the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships on February 13-15.  McDowell was named the CAC Women's Swimmer-of-the-Year for the second time in her three-year Seahawk career, garnering the honor for the first time back in 2007.

The Hatboro-Horsham HS product became the first swimmer in CAC history to win seven gold medals, capturing, individually or as part of a relay, the 200 individual medley, the 100 backstroke, the 200 backstroke, the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, and the 200 and 400 medley relays.

McDowell established seven CAC meet records either individually or as part of a relay team, while notching nine conference records as well as nine school marks.  Four of her record-setting performances were NCAA automatic qualifying times, securing her spot in the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on March 18-21.

A week after the CAC championships, McDowell set the school record in the 500 free as the last chance meet hosted by St. Mary's on February 21.  She currently owns 12 school records (8 individual, 4 relay).
