Hotchko Picked St. Mary’s December Athlete-of-the-Month

St. Mary's City, Md. - Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash.), a member of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team, became the second swimmer to earn athlete-of-the-month honors as Hotchko was selected as the December Athlete-of-the-Month by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

Hotchko The junior butterfly/freestyle specialist helped the Seahawks post a fourth-place finish at the annual Franklin & Marshall College Invitational on December 6-7, capturing two events and registering an NCAA ‘B' cut.

Hotchko captured the 100 fly with her winning time of 58.00, just .04 seconds off the school record set by Beth Dobson in 2006 (57.96), and her time was also an NCAA provisional cut.  She also won the 200 fly in 2:12.61.

The A.C. Davis HS product then tied her teammate, Eleanor Koerner, for fourth place in the 50 free as both swam a 25.26.

She was also part of the winning 200 free relay (1:40.02), while helping St. Mary's to second-place finishes in the 400 medley relay (4:03.12), 200 medley relay (1:50.83), and the 400 free relay (3:40.43).

Hotchko also garnered Capital Athletic Conference Female Swimmer-of-the-Week laurels (December 10) for her stellar performance at the F&M Invitational.
