McDowell, Koerner Set Four Pool Records at York (Pa)

York, Pa. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team broke four pool records en route to a 131-74 Capital Athletic Conference victory over York (Pa.) College Saturday afternoon.  Senior captain Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) set three new YCP pool marks while fellow classmate Eleanor Koerner (North Potomac, Md./T.S. Wootton) added one in the 100 free.

McDowell captured both the 50 and 500 free events in record time as she swam a 24.64 and a 5:20.95, respectively. Her third record of the day happened in the 400 medley relay as McDowell posted a 59.91 in the 100 back as the first leg of the event.

Koerner picked up a record time in the 100 free as the first leg of the first-place 400 free relay with a 56.57.

Senior captain Nat Schaefer (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) won the 1000 free in 11:26.79, while junior Monika Disque (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) was second in 11:38.63.

Junior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis) took first in the 200 free (2:04.85) as well as the 100 free (56.70) and was part of the winning 400 medley relay (4:10.84), while Koerner came in second in the 200 free (2:05.27) and third in the 100 back (1:07.75).

Freshman Christine DiMenna (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) finished first in the 100 fly in 1:03.93, while junior Anna Chiplis (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) was second in 1:04.39.

The Seahawks (5-2, 4-0 CAC) went 1-2-3 in the 100 breast as sophomore Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) won the event in 1:12.67, freshman Amanda Pazouki (Silver Spring, Md./JFK) came in second (1:15.91), and junior Laura VanBlargan (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) third in 1:18.48.  Sokolove was also part of the winning 400 medley relay.

Sophomore Arielle Webster (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) placed third in the 50 free (26.59) and was part of the winning 400 medley relay.

Freshman Katie Serfling (Frederick, Md./Urbana) was second in the 400 IM in 5:07.62, while Disque took second in the 100 back (1:05.97).

Koerner, Disque, DiMenna, and junior Dominique Perez (Rockville, Md./Holy Child) swam on the winning 400 free relay in 3:51.57.

The Seahawks will be back in action on December 6-7 at the Franklin & Marshall College Invitational.
