Seahawks Perform Well at Terrapin Cup Invitational

College Park, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team had a pair of relays compete at the 2008 Terrapin Cup Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland Thursday evening and both squads put up very strong performances.
The 200 free relay was composed of senior Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), junior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis), sophomore Arielle Webster (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford), and senior Eleanor Koerner (North Potomac, Md./T.S. Wootton) and the foursome posted a 1:40.63.
Their time in the 200 free relay was the 13th fastest among the mostly Division I field and the Seahawks finished .25 hundredths of a second ahead of the University of Mary Washington.
McDowell nearly broke the school record in the 50 free as she swam the first leg of the 200 free relay. She missed setting a new mark by .04 hundredths of a second, leaving Kim Crance's 10-year old record of 24.45 intact.
In the 400 medley relay, the Seahawks swam the 15th fastest time with a 4:04.74. Swimming in the relay were McDowell, sophomore Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), Hotchko, and Koerner. McDowell notched a 58.74 in the 100 back as the lead-off swimmer.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool tomorrow when St. Mary's hosts Gallaudet University and Marymount (Va.) University in a Capital Athletic Conference tri-meet at 5:00.
