McDowell Earns Back-to-Back CAC Female Swimmer-of-the-Week Honors

Brie McDowell
York, Pa. - For the second straight week, St. Mary's College of Maryland's Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Swimmer-of-the-Week for the week ending November 16 as CAC commissioner, Tom Byrnes, released the weekly accolades Tuesday afternoon.
The senior captain broke an individual pool record, a relay team pool record, and an individual school record while recording an NCAA ‘B' cut in capturing six gold medals in two meets this past week.
In a 129-76 loss at Randolph-Macon College Friday afternoon, McDowell led off the pool record-setting 400 medley relay team (4:09.55) with an individual pool record-setting 59.49 in the 100 backstroke. She then went on to post wins in the 200 IM (2:14.47) and 200 backstroke (2:11.44).
McDowell then shaved off nearly three seconds off the nine-year old 400 IM school mark of 4:41.68 set by Jamie Cheng as she captured the event with an NCAA provisional and school record time of 4:38.74. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:54.64) and captured the 100 free (54.27) in a loss to Washington (Md.) College on Saturday.
