McDowell Named CAC Female Swimmer-of-the-Week
York, Pa. - St. Mary's College of Maryland's Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) became the first female swimmer of the 2008-09 season to earn Capital Athletic Conference Swimmer-of-the-Week honors for the week ending November 9 as announced Tuesday afternoon by CAC commissioner, Tom Byrnes.
The senior captain set a school record in the 200 free as St. Mary's swept its tri-meet with Catholic University and league opponent, Hood College, on November 8. The Seahawks (2-0, 1-0 CAC) picked up a 154-51 win over Catholic and a 170-28 victory over Hood.
McDowell broke her own mark from two years ago when she posted a first-place time of 1:57.85, beating her old record by 0.87 seconds.
She also captured the 100 back with an NCAA provisional time of 59.42 and was also the first leg of the winning 200 medley relay team which posted a 1:54.09.
