St. Marys Sweeps CAC Tri-Meet

St. Mary's City, Md. - With a 105-100 victory over Marymount (Va.) University, the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team snapped the Saints' five-meet win streak against St. Mary's. The Seahawks (4-2, 3-0) also posted a dominating 171-33 win over Gallaudet University in a Capital Athletic Conference tri-meet Friday night.
St. Mary's last win against Marymount happened during the 2002-03 season when the Seahawks recorded a 127-65 triumph. Last season, the Saints eked out a 103-102 win at their place.
The foursome of senior captain Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore Sofia Sokolove (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), junior Rachel Hotchko (Yakima, Wash./A.C. Davis), and sophomore Arielle Webster (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) captured the 200 medley relay in 1:53.29.
The Seahawks went 1-2 in the 1000 free as senior captain Nat Schaefer (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) as Schaefer won the event in 11:26.68, while junior Monika Disque (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) came in second in 11:31.36.
Senior captain Brie McDowell (Doylestown, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) won both the 200 free in 1:58.17 and the 200 back in the 2:10.27, while Hotchko placed third in the 200 free in 2:01.41. Sokolove captured the 200 IM in 2:19.64 and Hotchko claimed top honors in the 200 fly in 2:14.36, while junior Anna Chiplis (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) placed third in the 200 fly in 2:21.76.
Senior Eleanor Koerner (North Potomac, Md./T.S. Wootton) took second in both the 50 free in 25.46 and the 100 free in 55.39. Schaefer went second in the 500 free (5:37.92), just .47 hundredths of a second out of first place, while Disque claimed third in the same event in 5:38.73.
Sokolove placed second in the 200 breast, while the foursome of junior Dominique Perez (Rockville, Md./Holy Child), Disque, Webster, and Koerner came in second in the 200 free relay in 1:42.45 which was just .31 hundredths behind Marymount's relay squad.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool tomorrow when St. Mary's travels to Pennsylvania to face York (Pa.) College in another Capital Athletic Conference meet at 1:00.
