Richard Möller commences a new chapter in his coaching career as Möller enters his first season at the helm of the Seahawk women's soccer program. He became the program’s fourth head coach this past June, replacing Brianne Weaver '00 who stepped down to pursue a similar position at Bowdoin College in Maine.
A veteran coach, Möller comes to St. Mary’s following a six-year stint as the head women’s soccer coach at NCAA Division III Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) of the Liberty League. He led the Brewers to a six-year record of 53-42-6, including four straight winning seasons between 2007 and 2010. Vassar advanced to the program’s first-ever Liberty championship game in 2010, pushing nationally-ranked and perennial powerhouse, William Smith College, to a shootout. The Brewers also enjoyed their first-ever regional ranking as they finished the 2010 season ranked seventh in the NSCAA East region.

The Kaiserslautern, Germany native brings a vast array of knowledge and experience as a coach and player. Möller has brought his love of the game to both the Division I and III levels, earning his first head coaching position at Division I Western Illinois University for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. While at Western Illinois, he guided the team to their first appearance in the Mid-Continent Conference (now the Summit League) tournament since 2000 during his first season as WIU finished fourth in the M-CC. Möller coached two all-conference selections, one in each season.
His coaching career has also included assistant coaching stops at Division I Dartmouth College and Division III Smith College and Villa Julie College (now Stevenson University). Internationally, Möller worked with the German Girls U17 and U16 National Teams as an assistant under Ralf Peter and this past March, he assisted with FFC Frankfurt, one of the three best female club teams in Europe.
A 1999 graduate of Towson University, Möller was the Tigers’ first America East Conference Player of the Year as well as their first NSCAA Division I All-American. He helped Towson to its first America East regular-season championship with an 8-1 record and the Towson Tigers advanced to a pair of America East tournament finals during his four-year career.
Professionally, Möller was drafted as the overall No. 1 pick by Maryland Mania (A-League)/D.C. United (Major League Soccer), playing for them from 1999 to 2000. He was drafted as the No. 2 overall pick by the Baltimore Blast of the Major Indoor Soccer League, playing for the Blast from 2000-2001. Möller enjoyed success as well with several German squads, including gaining a championship title with IFC Kaiserslautern.
He graduated from Towson with Latin honors and 4.0 GPA, earning a bachelor’s of arts degree in modern languages. Möller then garnered a master’s in exercise and sport studies from Smith in 2003.
