Bill Smithson is back in 2011 for his second season as an assistant coach on his daughter's coaching staff. 

Smithson brings to the St. Mary's program a dozen years of experience coaching boys and girls youth recreational and travel teams for St. Mary’s United plus one year experience coaching the junior varsity boys soccer team at Great Mills High School.

He also has 10 years of experience as a Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) referee for youth recreational, travel, tournament, and high school soccer.  Smithson has United States Soccer Federation (USSF) F, E, and D coaching licenses as well as National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National, Advanced National, and Premier Coaching Diplomas.

In addition, he has studied under Brazilian, Czech Republic, Dutch and Irish national team coaches through the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA).
