Brad Newkirk returns for a second season in 2011 as an assistant coach on the sidelines for the Seahawk women's soccer program.

Before stepping on the St. Mary's campus, Newkirk played two years at the College of Southern Maryland under Tony Galeano and served as a team captain.  He then played his final two years as a teammate of current SMC men's soccer coach, Alun Oliver.  As a Seahawk team captain, Newkirk led St. Mary's to a two-year mark of 28-9 (8-6 CAC) and two conference semifinal appearances in 2002 and 2003.  He played in all but one of the 37 contests during his tenure, starting 34 and notching six points (1g, 4a). 

Newkirk currently plays for the British Tigers FC of Arlington, Va.

His previous coaching experiences includes mentoring the Maryland District Developmental Program U-13 girls; serving as the head assistant coach for the Chopticon HS women’s soccer team; and leading the Southern Maryland Futsal U-10s and U-11s girls in the head coach position. 

Newkirk graduated from St. Mary's in 2004 with a degree in chemistry.  He then continued his chemistry studies with graduate work at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

When not on the pitch, Newkirk works in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at St. Mary’s as a chemistry lab coordinator.

He currently resides in Leonardtown.
