St. Mary's Women's Soccer Claims NSCAA Team Academic Award
Kansas City, Kans. – For the fourth consecutive season, the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team has earned the distinction of being a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award honoree. The award recognizes the Seahawks for maintaining a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2009-10 academic year.
A total of 630 soccer teams (436 women, 194 men), across all three NCAA divisions and NAIA, were recognized by the NSCAA for their excellence in the classroom. Along with St. Mary's, three other Capital Athletic Conference schools were on the list as well as Frostburg State University, Stevenson University and York (Pa.) College all made the cut.
The Seahawks notched a team GPA of 3.23 for the 2009-10 academic year under the guidance of head coach Brianne Weaver. This is the seventh time the program has received the NSCAA academic award.
