Horgan Leads Farmingdale Past St. Marys
Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman forward Taylor Horgan (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) found the back of the net in the first half to lift Farmingdale State College to a 1-0 shutout of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Horgan notched her second goal of the season with an unassisted tally at 38:13.
The Rams (5-2-1) outshot St. Mary's, 24-13, including taking 15 in the first half. Farmingdale also held an 8-3 margin in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Studsrud (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) tallied four saves on 13 shots faced in recording her first shutout of the year.
Freshman goalkeeper Grace Koplow (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake) played well for the Seahawks in her first collegiate start as Koplow picked up 11 saves, including eight in the first half.
St. Mary's will take the next couple of days to rest before returning to action next Wednesday, September 23 when the Seahawks travel to Baltimore for a night game against No. 17 Johns Hopkins University in non-conference action at 7:00 p.m.
