Seahawk Womens Soccer to Host Hood in CAC Semifinal
St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team will host Hood College in a Capital Athletic Conference semifinal contest on Tuesday, November 4 at 2:30 in Seahawk Stadium as the Seahawks are making their third semifinal appearance in four years.
St. Mary's (10-2-3) earned the No. 2 seed in this year's CAC playoffs and drew a first-round bye by virtue of its 6-1-1 conference mark. The Seahawks went unbeaten in conference action until their final CAC regular-season contest at Salisbury, where SMCM dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 overtime decision.
Sixth-seeded Hood (10-7-2, 3-5 CAC) is advancing to their first-ever semifinal appearance after eliminating No. 3 seed Stevenson University on Saturday. The decision was determined by penalty kicks as both squads played to a scoreless double overtime draw. The Blazers posted a 3-1 advantage in PKs to advance to Tuesday's action.
During the regular-season, St. Mary's posted a 4-0 shutout at Hood on September 9 behind four goals from senior forward Lauren Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill).
In 2007, the Seahawks were knocked out of the CAC Tournament last season by Wesley College, 2-1, in the CAC Quarterfinals hosted by St. Mary's.
Two years ago in 2006, the Seahawks advanced to the program's first-ever CAC Championship game and finished that year at 12-6-2 overall.
The championship game will be played on Saturday, November 8 at the site of the highest remaining seed.
