St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team notched their second straight win over Marymount (Va.) University in three days as the fourth-seeded Seahawks came up with a convincing 17-7 win over fifth-seeded Marymount in the first round of the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament Tuesday afternoon.

The win advances St. Mary's (8-9) to Saturday's semifinal match at top-seeded Salisbury University on the Eastern Shore. Game time is 1:00 pm. The Seahawks' appearance in the semifinals will be the first since 2010.

Today's loss brings Marymount's 2013 season to a close with an overall record of 7-8 (2-4 CAC) and leaves the Saints still searching for their first win over St. Mary's as Marymount is 0-21 against the Seahawks.

Senior attacker Emily Shafer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) paced the Seahawk offense with a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists while sophomore midfielder Daniella Hanacek (Rockville, Md./T.S. The Seahawks tacked on two more before sophomore midfielder Molly Maher (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) sent Marymount into halftime with a 9-2 deficit.

Johnson and Maher led the Marymount attack with two goals apiece while Maher collected game-highs of six draw controls and four caused turnovers. First-year midfielder Stephanie Keane (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Oceanside) chipped in a goal and an assist while junior Chelsea Ritter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) dished out two helpers.

The Seahawks netted four of the first five goals of the second half to own a 13-3 lead at 21:58. Marymount responded with its first string of goals of the game as the Saints rattled off three straight. Shafer was involved in three of St. Mary's next four goals as she aided on two and then scored an unassisted one at 2:59. First-year attacker Summerlin Meredith (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock SS) picked up the Saints final tally of the game on a free-position shot.

St. Mary's outshot the Saints, 29-21, and edged them, 17-15 in ground balls and 14-12 in draw controls. Senior midfielder Lauren Gray (Edgewater, Md./South River) won four draw controls and hustled to four ground balls while sophomore defender Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) contributed to the defensive effort with four caused turnovers.

St. Mary's sophomore Michelle DiMenna (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) turned away seven shots in 55 minutes of action while junior Kiki Niebuhr (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) picked up five stops in 46 minutes between the pipes for the Saints.
