York, Pa. – Emily Shafer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) became the first St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse player to be recognized by the Capital Athletic Conference this season as Shafer was named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 31.
The award was announced by conference commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Monday afternoon and Shafer shares the honor with York College of Pennsylvania's Leah Schultz.
Shafer helped St. Mary's (5-6, 1-1 CAC) to its first win streak of the season with a come-from-behind 10-9 non-conference win at Goucher College followed by its first conference victory of the year – a 17-4 triumph over Wesley College.
The 5-6 senior attacker started the week with four goals and an assist at Goucher, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 49-second span in the final 55 seconds of the game. Shafer then added two goals and two assists in league win over Wesley. She collected a ground ball and four draw controls as well.
Shafer, the team's scoring leader, ranks tied for third in the CAC in assists (17), fourth in points (36), and ninth in goals (19). She is also tied for 14th in draw controls with 18.
The Seahawks will be back in action tomorrow, April 2nd when St. Mary's travels to Washington, D.C. to take on The Catholic University of America in a non-conference game at 6:00 pm.
