Shackelford Named CAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

York, Pa. – Junior captain Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 15 as announced by league commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Monday afternoon.  Shackelford is the second St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse player to earn the honor this season.

The 5-4 midfielder picked up CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the Seahawks (8-7) extend their win streak to three with a pair of conference wins over Wesley College and Frostburg State University.  St. Mary's scored a season-best 19 goals in each of those wins.

Shackelford started the week with a career-best eight ground balls, season-high five draw controls, career-best four goals, and one caused turnover in a 19-12 win at Wesley on April 10.

She ended the week with a career-high three caused turnovers, three loose ball pickups, two goals and two draw controls in the team's 19-10 victory at Frostburg State.

Shackelford currently ranks seventh in the conference in ground balls with 41 and draw controls with 41 while ranking 11th in caused turnovers with 18.

The Seahawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 17 when St. Mary's welcomes No. 11 York College of Pennsylvania (12-3) to Seahawk Stadium for league action at 4:00 pm.
