Bertrand Selected to Play in North/South Senior All-Star Game
Hartford, Conn. – Senior team captain Alex Bertrand (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's, Annapolis) will represent the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team at the 2010 IWLCA/Under Armour North/South Senior All-Star Game being held at the United States Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. on Saturday, June 12 at 2:00 pm.
Bertrand was one of 41 student-athletes, representing 26
institutions, selected to participate in this year's All-Star
game. She will be playing the South squad under the direction
of Elizabethtown College mentor, Mike
Faith.
Bertrand is one of four student-athletes representing the Capital Athletic Conference on June 12. Joining Bertrand on the South team are attacker Kim Cudmore, defender Jess Glazer, and midfielder Beth Rhodey of Salisbury University.
After spending her junior season studying abroad in Paris, Bertrand finished out her Seahawk career on top with her first all-league pick with a second team All-Capital Athletic Conference selection. The 5-6 defender helped the St. Mary's defense post a 12.86 goals against average as she notched 14 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Bertrand aided in kick-starting the offense as well with six draw controls.
During her three-year career, Bertrand amassed 71 ground balls, 40 caused turnovers, and 12 draw controls in 52 games played with 51 starts.
St. Mary's finished the 2010 campaign with a 9-9 overall record, taking third in the conference with a 5-2 league mark. For the second year in a row, the Seahawks were knocked out of the CAC tournament in the semifinal round by University of Mary Washington.
