Carrier, Zerhusen to Play in North/South Senior All-Star Game

Charlottesville, Va. - St. Mary's College of Maryland's Lauren Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) and Allie Zerhusen (Cockeysville, Md./Park) were both selected to play in the 2009 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/Under Armour Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game as announced by the IWLCA over the weekend.

Carrier and Zerhusen were two of 40 Division III athletes named to the north and south squads.  The Seahawk pair will be playing for the south team coached by Franklin & Marshall College head coach, Lauren Paul.   Coach Paul directed her 2009 Diplomats to the 2009 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship crown with an overtime win over Salisbury University.

The all-star game will take place this Saturday, June 13 at 2:00 at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. as part of the Champions' Cup tournament.

Lauren Carrier
Carrier became the fourth St. Mary's player to earn conference player of the year honors when the all-conference squads were announced May 4.  She joined two-time winner Gia Trionfo (1998, 1999), Kathy Holmes (2002), and Carol Schmoeller (2004).  The senior midfielder picked up her third consecutive All-CAC First Team selection as well.

The 2008 CAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year, Carrier was also just the third student-athlete in the 19-year history of the CAC to win two player-of-the-year awards during the same academic year.  Gallaudet's volleyball and basketball superstar, Rhonda Jo Miller, was the CAC Player of the Year in both sports during her freshman (1996-97) and sophomore (1997-98) seasons, while Goucher's running standout, Jeff Olenick, accomplished the feat in cross country and track & field during the 2000-01 academic year.

Carrier is a two-time IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American, including a first team selection this year, and a four-time IWLCA All-Chesapeake Region First Team honoree.  She finished her senior campaign as the Seahawks' leading scorer for the fourth consecutive season as Carrier tallied 80 points on 64 goals and 16 assists.  The team captain also paced the team in free-position goals as she went 18-of-23 from the eight-meter arc.  For the Seahawks, Carrier was second in draw controls (39) and third in caused turnovers (17).  She matched a career-best with four assists en route to a season-high eight points in a CAC semifinal loss to Mary Washington, while scoring a season-best six goals twice.

Carrier ended her four-year career with 246 goals and 311 points to leave St. Mary's as the school's all-time leader in both categories, while winning 184 draw controls and hustling to 158 ground balls.  She also scored at least one goal in 59 consecutive games, starting her freshman year on April 15, 2006 and ending on April 21, 2009.

ALLIE ZERHUSEN
An IWLCA All-Chesapeake Second Team and an All-CAC Second Team pick, Zerhusen was the team's second-leading scorer for the second consecutive season as she registered 43 goals and 58 points.  She paced the Seahawks as well in draw controls with 45.  Zerhusen had career-highs of six goals and six points in a win over Washington (Md.).

Zerhusen capped off her four-year career with 135 goals, 44 assists, and 179 points as well as 139 draw controls and 112 ground balls.

St. Mary's finished the 2009 campaign with a 12-5 overall record, taking second in the conference standings with a 6-1 mark.  The Seahawks bowed out of the CAC Tournament with a semifinal loss to Mary Washington.
