Four Seahawks Earn Spot on 2009 All-Chesapeake Region Women’s Lacrosse Teams

Complete All-Region Teams

Charlottesville, Va. - Lauren Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) headlined a group of four St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse players named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Chesapeake Region teams as announced by the IWLCA Thursday afternoon.

The 2009 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Player of the Year, Carrier was the lone Seahawk selected to the All-Chesapeake First Team, while seniors Emily Norris (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) and Allie Zerhusen (Cockeysville, Md./Park) as well as sophomore defender Arianna Larrimore (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) were picked for the second team.

The IWLCA honored 224 student-athletes in Division III with a selection on one of the seven all-region teams for 2009.  These athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America teams, which will be announced tomorrow, May 22.  The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the national All-Americans at the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American banquet on June 13 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.

Lauren Carrier
Carrier Carrier became the fourth St. Mary's player to earn conference player of the year honors when the all-conference squads were announced May 4.  She joined two-time winner Gia Trionfo (1998, 1999), Kathy Holmes (2002), and Carol Schmoeller (2004).  The senior midfielder picked up her third consecutive All-CAC First Team selection as well.

The 2008 CAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year, Carrier was also just the third student-athlete in the 19-year history of the CAC to win two player-of-the-year awards during the same academic year.  Gallaudet's volleyball and basketball superstar, Rhonda Jo Miller, was the CAC Player of the Year in both sports during her freshman (1996-97) and sophomore (1997-98) seasons, while Goucher's running standout, Jeff Olenick, accomplished the feat in cross country and track & field during the 2000-01 academic year.

With today's selection, Carrier is now a four-time All-Chesapeake First Team honoree.  She finished her senior campaign as the Seahawks' leading scorer for the fourth consecutive season as she tallied 80 points on 64 goals and 16 assists.  The team captain also paced the team in free-position goals as she went 18-of-23 from the eight-meter arc.  Carrier was second in both draw controls (39) and third in caused turnovers (17).  She matched a career-best with four assists en route to a season-high eight points in the CAC semifinal loss to Mary Washington, while scoring a season-best six goals twice.

Carrier ended her four-year career with 246 goals and 311 points to leave St. Mary's as the school's all-time leader in both categories, while winning 184 draw controls and hustling to 158 ground balls.

EMILY NORRIS
Norris A two-time all-conference pick, Norris is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-Chesapeake Second Team.  The senior attacker earned All-CAC Second Team honors on May 4 after finishing third in scoring with 40 points on 29 goals and 11 assists.  Norris was fourth in draw controls with 35.  She notched a career-high five goals and a season-best six points in a win at York (Pa.).

Norris tallied 147 points on 103 goals and 44 assists in four years as a Seahawk, while scooping up 100 ground balls.

ALLIE ZERHUSEN
Zerhusen A little over two weeks ago, Zerhusen notched her first-ever all-conference selection as she was named to the second team.  Now, the senior midfielder is picking up her first-ever all-region citation.  She was the team's second-leading scorer for the second consecutive season as she registered 43 goals and 58 points, while pacing the Seahawks in draw controls with 45.  Zerhusen had career-highs of six goals and six points in a win over Washington (Md.).

Zerhusen capped off her four-year career with 135 goals, 44 assists, and 179 points as well as 139 draw controls and 112 ground balls.

ARIANNA LARRIMORE
Larrimore Larrimore has earned her first-ever postseason recognition as she was second on the squad with 19 caused turnovers, while picking up 25 loose balls.  The sophomore defender helped anchor a defense which registered an 11.00 GAA.

St. Mary's finished the 2009 campaign with a 12-5 overall record, taking second in the conference standings with a 6-1 mark.  The Seahawks bowed out of the CAC Tournament with a semifinal loss to Mary Washington.
