Derek Sabedra is joining the Seahawk women's basketball coaching staff for his first season in 2011-12.  Sabedra also serves as the head men's and women's tennis coach at St. Mary's.

He has held numerous basketball coaching positions in the tri-county area, including a pair of head coaching stints.  Sabedra guided the Great Mills High School boys basketball team in 2004 and The Calverton School Lady Cougars in 2005.  In 2000-01, he served as the assistant girls basketball coach at Great Mills.

Sabedra is employed within the St. Mary's County Public Schools system as a behavioral specialist and currently lives in Huntingtown.

A 1987 graduate of Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, Sabedra received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1992.  He later earned his master's degree from Bowie State University in 2000.
