MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team (5-13, 1-6 CAC) downed the Penn State Harrisburg Lions (7-11, 1-6 CAC) 66-50 Wednesday (Jan. 23) night for their first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season.

Both defenses showed up early and held the opposing offenses to limited offensive chances to start the game. Trailing 6-4 with 3:38 left in the quarter, Katie Robey drained a shot from beyond the three-point arch to give the Seahawks a 7-6 lead with 2:50 left. St. Mary's held their lead and took a slim 12-11 advantage into the second quarter.

PSU Harrisburg began the second stanza with a made free throw, but the Seahawks answered with eight consecutive points for a 20-12 lead, the largest of the game up to that point. A made jumper from Gina Seifert, and made three-pointers from Robey and Kelli Jenkins accounted for the eight unanswered points.

The Seahawks held their eight-point lead with 1:23 remaining before half, but stretched their lead to 12 points with a made layup from Kobe Chaney and another made three-pointer from Robey. St. Mary's headed into halftime with a 31-18 lead over PSU Harrisburg.

St. Mary's tried to bury the Lions to start the second half, rallying for nine unanswered points for a 22 point lead. Seifert, Hallie Persell, and Cassidy Kupchinskas recorded scores during the run.

PSU Harrisburg trimmed the lead t0 12 with 5:13 remaining in the regulation. However, the Seahawks crushed any hopes of a Lion comeback by continuing to attack the rim for a comfortable 66-50 victory.
