Seahawks Leave Wesley with 79-71 Victory

Dover, Del. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team ended the regular-season on a six-game winning streak as the Seahawks posted a 79-71 win over Wesley College in the regular-season finale for both squads.
St. Mary's (18-7, 11-5 CAC) will take its six-game winning streak into Tuesday's Capital Athletic Conference Quarterfinal match-up with sixth-seeded Salisbury University. The third-seeded Seahawks will host the quarterfinal contest at 6:00.
The Seahawks' sophomore guard Stephanie Saint-Aubin (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and Wesley's sophomore forward Colleen Thomas (Howell, N.J./Howell) each tallied a game-high 27 points to pace their respective teams.
Saint-Aubin went 11-of-16 from the floor and had a game-high seven steals, while Thomas was 11-of-15, including 3-of-4 from downtown, and finished with a double-double on a game-high 11 rebounds.
A three-pointer by junior forward Kiely Murphy (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) gave the Seahawks a 13-2 lead at 15:55. The Wolverines used an 11-3 run to pull within three at 11:39 before St. Mary's built back its lead to eight (30-22) with 5:40 remaining in the first half. Wesley went on to close the half on a 11-4 run to cut SMCM's advantage to 34-33 at halftime.
Three players had 12 points at intermission as Saint-Aubin, Thomas and the Wolverines' freshman forward Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) paced everyone in the first 20 minutes, while junior forward Allie Scott (Laurel, Md./Atholton) had 10 points for the Seahawks.
Thomas' jumper knotted the game at 44-44 at 16:14 but a 30-14 run by St. Mary's gave them a 74-58 advantage at 5:59 which Wesley could not overcome.
Scott and freshman center Tiara Hurte (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) each finished with a double-double for the Seahawks as both of them notched 14 points each and 10 rebounds apiece, while senior forward Lisa Daciek (Laurel, Md./Atholton) grabbed a season-high 11 caroms.
Owens ended the game with 16 points and nine boards, while freshman guard Latasha Torres (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) added a dozen.
