Seahawk Men and Women to Host CAC Quarterfinals

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's and men's basketball teams will each host a Capital Athletic Conference match-up on Tuesday, February 26 at 6:00 and 8:00, respectively, in the ARC Arena.

The St. Mary's women (18-7, 11-5 CAC) are the third-seed in this year's CAC playoffs and are hosting a CAC first round contest for the first time since the 2004-05 season when the Seahawks dropped a 71-56 decision to Salisbury University in the quarterfinals on February 22, 2005.  SMCM will take on sixth-seeded Salisbury on Tuesday night at 6:00.  The Seahawks are currently riding their longest win streak of the season having won their sixth straight this past Saturday with a 79-71 road victory at Wesley College.

The Seahawk men (14-11, 9-7 CAC) claimed the fourth seed in the upcoming men's playoffs by virtue of their thrilling 71-68 road victory over Wesley this past Saturday.  St. Mary's will have to face Wesley for a third time this season in Tuesday's quarterfinal match-up at 8:00 as the Wolverines finished fifth in the regular-season CAC standings.  Tuesday's contest will mark the first time since the 2003-04 season that the Seahawks have hosted a first round game.

Ticket prices for Tuesday's action will be as follows: $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students (with proper college ID) and children (five and older).  Children below the age of five will be admitted free.  The CAC blue passes will not be valid for any of the CAC playoff games.

The St. Mary's Department of Athletics & Recreation will pick up the tab for any SMC student with a proper SMCM ID.  St. Mary's students must have their ID with them in order to get in for free; if not, students will be asked to pay the $5.00 adult admission fee.

The semifinals will be played Thursday (2/28) followed by the championship games on Saturday (3/1).  The highest seeded team in each game will serve as host.  The CAC champions earn an automatic bid to their respective 2008 NCAA Division III championship tournaments.
