Murphy Announced as Scholarship Winner

Baltimore, Md. - Kiely Murphy (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) was announced on Tuesday as one of the nine recipients of the Provident Way Scholarships.

Provident Bank provided each of the nine institutions participating in the Provident Bank Pride of Maryland Division III Men's Basketball Scholarship Tournament with a $1,000 scholarship.  The tournament took place November 20, 24, and 25.

Murphy was chosen by St. Mary's as the school's recipient of the scholarship.  The scholarship recipient had to exemplify the Provident Way, a set of defining characteristics developed by Provident employees to express the bank's culture and distinction.  Those characteristics include integrity, caring, excellence, partnership and a results-driven attitude.

Murphy and the other eight winners were recognized prior to the start of the championship contest on November 25 at Johns Hopkins University.

A 5-7, junior forward, Murphy is a psychology major at St. Mary's.  In the Seahawks' 4-0 start to the 2007-08 campaign, she has started all four games and is averaging 11 points per game.  Murphy also leads the squad with seven made three-pointers and a .500 three-point field goal percentage.
