Four Others Join Magill as Sailing All-Americans

Cascade Locks, Ore. – Four other members of the St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing joined graduating senior Megan Magill (San Diego, Calif.) as Intercollegiate Sailing Association All-America selections Thursday night at the final ICSA banquet of the 2011 season.

Graduating senior Michael Menninger (Newport News, Calif.) picked up his third All-America honor in four years as a Seahawk as Menninger was named to the ICSA All-America Skipper Team.  The 5-10 skipper also garnered Coed All-America honors in 2009 and 2010.  He was also one of five finalists for the Everett B. Morris Trophy, which is awarded annually to the College Sailor of the Year.

Joining Magill and Menninger as All-Americans were graduating seniors Maddie Jackson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Franny Kupersmith (Alexandria, Va.), and Meredith Powlison (Shelburne, Vt.) as the trio earned spots on the ICSA All-America Crew Team.

For Jackson, this is her second consecutive All-America honor as she earned the same award last season, while Kupersmith and Powlison are both first-time All-Americans for St. Mary's.  Powlison is also this year's St. Mary's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

These five individuals helped St. Mary's be the only school to record three top five finishes during this season's three ICSA national championships – third at the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women's Championship (May 23-26), fifth at the APS/ICSA Team Race Championship (May 27-29) and fifth at the Gill/ICSA Coed Dinghy Championship (May 30 – June 1).
