Seahawks Finish Second at Tom Noble Team Race
Chestertown, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team took second at the eight-team Tom Noble Team Race hosted by Washington (Md.) College (February 28 - March 1). The Seahawks, who are ranked No. 1 in the latest Sailing World's College Rankings, registered a 14-3 record.
The eight-team field sailed a full double round robin of 14 races with the top four teams then advancing to a three-race championship round.
No. 18 Hobart & William Smith Colleges captured the regatta with a 16-1 record as HWS posted a 13-1 after two round robins with the one loss coming at the hands of the Seahawks. St. Mary's was 12-2 with losses to No. 4 Georgetown University and HWS.
In the final four round, HWS sailed a perfect 3-0 mark to seal the victory. The Seahawks went 2-1, falling to Hobart & William Smith.
Senior Derick Vranizan (Seattle, Wash.) and sophomores Ben Whitman (Charleston, S.C.) and Megan Mahill (San Diego, Calif.) skippered for the Seahawks with crew Stefanie Glorioso (Jr./Cranberry Twp., Pa.), Maddie Jackson (So./Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Keisha Pearson (Sr./East Patchogue, N.Y.) and Claire Collie (Sr./Narragansett, R.I.). Skipper Alex Bishop served as the team's spare.
