Seahawks Bring Home Three Top 5 Finishes

The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team continued the fall portion of their 2008-09 season with four more regattas along the East Coast.

Trophy
St. Mary's claimed second at the Danmark Trophy
regatta hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with 143 points,
notching 83 in the A division (12 races) and 60 in the B division
(12 races). Junior skipper Jesse Kirkland
(Warwick, Bermuda) and sophomore crew Brooke
Thomson (Newport Beach, Calif.) placed fourth in the A
division, while sophomore skipper Michael
Menninger (Newport Beach, Calif.) and junior crew
Kelly Wilbur (Ipswich, Mass.) were second in the B
division.
Finger Lakes
Women's Intersectional
Sophomore skipper Megan Magill
(San Diego, Calif.) and senior crew Jen Chamberlin
(Alexandria, Va.) and Keisha Pearson (East
Patchogue, N.Y.) garnered a first place finish with 57 points in
the inaugural Finger Lakes Intersectional hosted by Hobart and
William Smith Colleges, while junior skipper Sara Morgan
Watters (Oxford, Md.) and sophomore crew Meredith
Powlison (Shelburne, Vt.) were 40 points behind, placing
fifth.

Memorial Regatta
Freshman skipper Mimi Roller (St.
John, V.I./Antilles) and junior crew Abby Rowlands
(Cleveland, Ohio) helped the Seahawks take third at the Tom Curtis
Memorial hosted by Georgetown University with their fourth place in
the A division (38 points). Freshman skipper Wick
Dudley (Queenstown, Md./Gunston Day School) and junior
crew Stefanie Glorioso were also fourth with 38
points in the B division.

Regatta
Junior skipper Ted Hale
(Annapolis, Md.) and crew Derick Vranizan
(Seattle, Wash.) and Michael Kuschner (San
Francisco, Calif.) totaled 16 points in six races to be just two
points out of second place at the Stern Regatta hosted by the
College of Charleston.
