Seahawks Take Sixth at Graham Hall/John Jackson
Washington, D.C. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team finished sixth at the Graham Hall/John Jackson Regattas hosted by the US Naval Academy and Georgetown University on March 7-8.
The event started Saturday with eight teams at Navy (Graham Hall Regatta) and eight at Georgetown (John Jackson Regatta). At the end of the day, the top four teams from each group advance to Georgetown with the bottom four going to Navy.
No. 1 St. Mary's posted a 6-1 record (losing to Georgetown) on Saturday to be part of the top 8 for the John Jackson Regatta at Georgetown along with No. 2 Boston College, No. 4 Georgetown, No. 6 Yale University, No. 7 College of Charleston, No. 8 Navy, No. 13 University of South Florida, and No. 15 SUNY Maritime. The Seahawks were 2-1 against the teams that advanced from the Georgetown group, heading into Sunday's competition.
On Sunday, St. Mary's went 1-3 for a total record of 3-4 in the championship round. However, it was not enough to advance to the final four.
Sophomore Michael Menninger (Newport Beach, Calif.), junior Ted Hale (Annapolis, Md.) and Alex Bishop skippered for the Seahawks with crew Claire Collie (Sr./Narragansett, R.I.), Mimi Roller (Fr./St. John, V.I./Antilles), Abby Rowlands (Jr./Cleveland, Ohio), and Maddie Jackson (So./Bainbridge Island, Wash.). Sophomore skipper Ben Whitman (Charleston, S.C.) served as the team's spare.
Georgetown captured the Graham Hall/John Jackson Regattas with a 9-1 record.
