No. 6 St. Marys Finishes 4th at Admirals Cup
Kings Point, N.Y. - The sixth-ranked St. Mary's College of Maryland coed sailing team placed fourth at the Admiral's Cup hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (April 26-27). The Seahawks totaled 138 points in 24 completed races, finishing two points behind No. 7 Navy for third place.
St. Mary's fourth-place finish was headlined by senior skipper Derick Vranizan's (Seattle, Wash.) third-place finish in the singlehanded C division as Vranizan totaled 26 points, just two points behind Hobart & William Smith's Rob Crane.
Junior Jesse Kirkland (Warwick, Bermuda) skippered the A division boat to fourth place with crew Maddie Jackson (So./Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Mike Kuschner (Jr./San Francisco, Calif.) as the Seahawks tallied 47 points, four points behind No. 5 Yale's boat for third.
In B division, junior skipper Alex Bishop placed eighth with crew Claire Collie (Sr./Narragansett, R.I.) and freshman Ben Lezin as St. Mary's posted 65 points.
No. 12 Tufts University captured the Admiral's Cup with 114 points as the Jumbos captured the C division and placed second in the B division.
