Newville, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's cross country team competed in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional hosted by Dickinson College Saturday afternoon to conclude the 2015 season.
The Seahawks claimed the 37th place in a field of 52 teams. No. 7 Haverford College took the top team honor in the meet with a score of 67. The Fords placed four runners in the Top 20 while senior Charlie Marquardt captured the individual title for the second consecutive season with a time of 25:14.8.
Senior captain Aidan Hennessey (Washington, D.C./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) led the Seahawks as he staked a 189th-place finish (187th – adjusted) with a time of 28:37.0. Trailing behind Hennessey was junior Eric Ortiz (Rockville, Md./Magruder) in 213th place (208th – adjusted) with a time of 28:58.1.
Coming in side-by-side for the Seahawks were senior captain Greg Mainolfi (Lutherville, Md./Towson) and sophomore T.J. McPhaul (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman). Both runners posted a time of 29:16.7 to earn placements of 233rd and 234th, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for St. Mary's was the team's fifth finisher, first-year James Judlick (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall). Judlick scooped up a 237th-place finish (231st – adjusted) with a time of 29:18.7.
Sophomore Scott Zimmerman (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) and senior captain Max Beker (Lutherville, Md./Towson) pushed the Seahawks' top finishers to put their best foot forward on the 8K course. Zimmerman ran a 30:09.0 to finish 278th (267th – adjusted) while Beker tallied a 302nd-place finish (288th – adjusted) in 30:48.1.
The Seahawks wrapped up a solid season at Saturday's NCAA Regional meet. St. Mary's recorded a two third-place finishes in 2015 at the 6th Annual Coach Achtzehn Classic and the Hood College Invitational.
