Seahawk Men's Cross Country Competes at the Green Terror Challenge
Westminster, Md. – Junior captain Dan Swain (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall College) captured fifth-place honors in the long event of the McDaniel College Green Terror XC Challenge Saturday afternoon as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's cross country team finished sixth overall.
The Green Terror XC Challenge features a 5K course as well as a 3K race and only teams that competed as a full team (at least seven runners) in both events are eligible for an overall team score. Another difference was in the fact that the top four finishers for each team scores, instead of the usual five.
Swain finished fifth overall (among 74 runners) on the long course, clocking a 17:28.60 and helping the Seahawks to a third-place finish in the 5K. In terms of team scoring, he was third.
St. Mary's also received three top 25 overall finishes from junior captain Nick Pasko (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall College) and first-years David Kersey (Davidsonville, Md./South River) and Tim Carey (California, Md./Leonardtown). Pasko came in 22nd overall (17th team finisher) followed by Kersey in 23rd (18th) and Carey in 25th (20th).
Swain also paced the team on the 3K course with a 35th-place overall finish (26th team finisher) followed by Pasko (66th overall/47th team finisher), first-year Toby Hall (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) (68th/49th), and Carey (69th/50th).
The Seahawks will return to action Saturday, September 17 at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York College of Pennsylvania. The race will begin at 4:00 pm.
