Swain Finishes Second at York Invitational
York, Pa. - Freshman Dan Swain (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's cross country team continued to make waves in their inaugural season as the Seahawk men notched their first top three team finish behind Swain's second-place finish Saturday morning at the York (Pa.) College Invitational I.
The Invitational consisted of an 8,000-meter run in which St. Mary's finished second in the team scoring with 60 points as the Seahawks had three top 10 finishes. For the second week in a row, the Seahawks bested Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Hood College - this time by 13 points. The average time for the St. Mary's harriers was 30:25.34.
Swain ran a 27:38.95 to place second, just under a minute off the winning pace of 26:42.30 set by Sean Trott of Lancaster Bible College. St. Mary's next highest finisher was freshman Nick Pasko (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) as Pasko came in fifth with this time of 28:17.00.
Joining Swain and Pasko in the top 10 was freshman Quint Frauman (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) as Frauman took 10th with a time of 29:05.50.
The Seahawks will return to action next Saturday, September 26 at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md. The race will begin at 10:00 a.m.
The addition of men's and women's cross country this past spring brought St. Mary's athletic offerings to 17 sports.
Affiliated with NCAA Division III, St. Mary's became the ninth and final member institution of the Capital Athletic Conference to sponsor both men's and women's cross country. The Seahawks joined Gallaudet University, Hood College, the University of Mary Washington, Marymount (Va.) University, Salisbury University, Stevenson University, Wesley College, and York (Pa.) College.
