Seahawks Paced by Swain at Don Cathcart Invitational
Salisbury, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's cross country team competed against thirteen schools, including three Division II schools, at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University.
The Seahawk men placed above Division II University of District of Columbia and beat out Capital Athletic Conference competitors Hood College, Wesley College, Gallaudet University and Stevenson University.
The Invitational consisted of an 8,000-meter run in which St. Mary's finished eighth out of 11 in the team scoring with 211 points.
Freshman Dan Swain (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) led the Seahawk men for the third week in a row with his time of 26:53, finishing 27th out of 107 runners.
St. Mary's next highest finisher was freshman Nick Pasko (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) as Pasko came in 32nd with his time of 27:02, while freshman Quint Frauman (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) took 56th with a time of 28:21.
The Seahawks will return to action Saturday, October 10 at the Goucher College Cross Country Classic in Towson, Md. The race will begin at 10:30 am.
The addition of men's and women's cross country this past spring brought St. Mary's athletic offerings to 17 sports.
Affiliated with NCAA Division III, St. Mary's became the ninth and final member institution of the Capital Athletic Conference to sponsor both men's and women's cross country. The Seahawks joined Gallaudet University, Hood College, the University of Mary Washington, Marymount (Va.) University, Salisbury University, Stevenson University, Wesley College, and York (Pa.) College.
