St. Mary's Men's Tennis Finishes Season at Stevenson

Stevenson, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team ended their 2017-18 campaign on Thursday with a non-conference match at Stevenson University. St. Mary's (5-10) suffered a 7-2 loss at the hands of the Mustangs (11-5) in its last match of the season.

How It Happened

Doubles:

  • Sophomores Ethan Garren (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and Ron Stith (Cheltenham, Md./Lackey) picked up an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Ray McDermott and Worden Ly for the Seahawks' lone point in doubles action. This was the first time Garren and Stith were paired up as doubles partners.
  • Senior captains Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel) and Connor McKissick (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) finished their doubles career with a tough 8-5 loss to Douglas Vaughn and Andre Sturniolo at No. 2 doubles.

Singles:

  • Garren notched St. Mary's only point in singles action as well as he went up 6-2, 2-0 at No. 1 singles before McDermott retired.
