St. Mary's Men's Tennis Routs SUNY Delhi

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team posted a 9-0 exhibition win over SUNY Delhi Sunday afternoon at the Somerset Tennis Complex.

Senior captain Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and sophomore Connor McKissick (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) started St. Mary's winning ways with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles followed by seniors Robert Bishop (Hollywood, Md./Great Mills) and Troy Spurrier (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) winning 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Nick Ersoy (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) and sophomore Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel) wrapped up the Seahawks' sweep of doubles with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Hardesty earned a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over sophomore Robert Zawadzki (Maspeth, N.Y./Cathedral Prep Seminary) at No. 1 singles. Junior Byron Dickerson (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) subbed in for Bishop at No. 2 singles and tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win over sophomore Max Fontana (Skaneateles, N.Y./Foster).

With Dickerson moving up to No. 2 singles, McKissick took on sophomore Troy Osborne (Monsey, N.Y./Suffern) and came out with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles. Spurrier played in his first singles match of the season, posting a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over first-year Shaquille Hamilton (Jamaica, N.Y./New Town) at No. 4 singles.

Ersoy notched a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over sophomore Lac Van (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) while Van Winter collected a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles over first-year Nathan Backus (East Meredith, N.Y./Charlotte Valley CS).

St. Mary's will be on the road for its next match when the Seahawks travel to Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland on Sunday, March 13 to take on Goucher College at 1:00 p.m. and Harford at 3:00 p.m.
