St. Mary's Men's Tennis Falls at Randolph-Macon

Ashland, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team opened up the spring portion of their 2015-16 season Saturday afternoon at Randolph-Macon College. Randolph-Macon (1-1) posted a 7-2 win over the Seahawks (1-2).

St. Mary's came away with two points thanks to its doubles play.

At No. 1 doubles, senior captain Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and sophomore Connor McKissick (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) notched a thrilling 9-8 victory over senior John Adam (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and sophomore Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's). Hardesty/McKissick grabbed an 8-3 triumph in the tiebreaker set for the win.

The second point of the match for the Seahawks came from the 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles posted by senior Nick Ersoy (Prince Frederick, Md./Huntingtown) and sophomore Kyle Van Winter (Scaggsville, Md./Good Counsel).

The closest singles match was played by Hardesty at No. 1 singles as he took Adam to 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

St. Mary's will look to rebound tomorrow (Sunday, February 28) when the Seahawks welcome Washington College to the Somerset Tennis Complex for a non-conference match at 1:00 p.m.
