Owings Mills, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team got back in the win column Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 non-conference win over the host Stevenson University Mustangs.
Junior captain Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and first-year Mark Hardesty (Westminster, Md./Westminster) notched their team-leading 16th doubles win of the season with an 8-2 victory over first-years Conrad Ellis (Baltimore, Md.) and Peter Hoblitzell (Towson, Md.) at No. 1 doubles.
St. Mary's duo of juniors John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) and J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) tallied their eighth straight doubles win with an 8-4 triumph over senior Nick Dunlap (Baltimore, Md.) and junior Anthony Carle (Reisterstown, Md.) at No. 2 doubles.
Gear picked up his ninth straight victory with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Ellis at No. 1 singles, moving to 14-5 on the season. Guzzone recorded his 13th singles win of the season with a three-set triumph over Hoblitzell, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3, at No. 4 singles.
Feighner became the third Seahawk to register double-digit singles wins as he improved to 10-8 on the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Carle at No. 3 singles.
St. Mary's will conclude the regular season with a non-conference match on Tuesday, April 16 as the Seahawks travel to Chestertown to take on Washington College at 3:00 pm.
