Guzzone Shares Weekly Conference Honor

York, Pa. – J. Guzzone (Columbia, Md./Hammond) is now the third St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis player to earn Capital Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors as Guzzone picked up the award for the week ending April 15 as announced by league commissioner, Tom Byrnes, Tuesday afternoon.  Guzzone shares this week's honor with Salisbury University's Daniel Albers.

Guzzone garnered the CAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor after notching a 6-0 record at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles in three conference matches including the decisive point in the team's 5-4 victory over Salisbury on April 13.

The 5-11 sophomore started off the week with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory over York College of Pennsylvania's Jake Greenstein on April 10 after teaming up with fellow classmate John Feighner (Laurel, Md./Atholton) for an 8-1 win over Greenstein and Matt Rosenkrantz.

Guzzone continued with his 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) triumph over Salisbury's Demetri Vrahnos to secure the 5-4 win and the Seahawks' first-ever No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament.  He began the match with an 8-3 doubles win over Nick Mancuso and Shane Gunther.

Guzzone finished the week with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Stevenson University's Eric Belton on April 15 after notching an 8-1 doubles victory over Belton and Matthew Eyler.

Guzzone is currently 20-3 in singles action, including a 15-2 mark at No. 6 singles.  He owns a 15-5 doubles record, including a 12-2 log at No. 3 doubles.

The Seahawks will be back in action on Tuesday, April 24 as St. Mary's hosts one of two CAC semifinal matches.  The Seahawks will face either third-seeded Salisbury University or sixth-seeded Stevenson University in the semifinal match.
