St. Mary's Men's Tennis Selected as ITA All-Academic Team

Complete List of Division III Men's ITA All-Academic Teams

Skillman, N.J. – For the third consecutive season, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team has been selected as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team.  St. Mary's was one of 37 squads honored by the ITA while six Seahawks were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

The St. Mary's men were one of two programs to represent the Capital Athletic Conference as University of Mary Washington made the list as well.

The ITA All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).  All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2009 and spring 2010).

While posting a 3.28 GPA during the 2009-10 campaign, the Seahawks finished with a 12-10 (2-4 CAC) record to match the single-season record for wins originally set by the 1997-98 squad and marked the first time under head coach Derek Sabedra's tenure of back-to-back 10+ win seasons.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

Seniors Drew Barnes (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Yuri Soussov (Moscow, Russia), junior Jeff Levy (Rockville, Md./T.S. Wootton), sophomores Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Elliot Russell (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) and first-year Kyle Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) all represented St. Mary's as ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Barnes and Russell both repeated as ITA Scholar-Athletes for the second consecutive year.
