St. Mary’s Sweeps Southern Virginia
Virginia Beach, Va. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Virginia Wesleyan College Beach Shootout with a perfect 3-0 record as the Seahawks captured their final match by a 9-0 margin over Southern Virginia University Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Arvin Wong (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) continued the strong start to his rookie campaign as Wong picked up his third straight victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over freshman Phillip Whiteley (North Logan, Utah/Sky View) at No. 2 singles.
Senior Sam Barton (Edgewater, Md./Key) also notched his third consecutive singles victory as he tallied a 6-0, 6-1 win over David Cotter at No. 3 singles.
St. Mary's will return to action next Saturday, September 26 when the Seahawks host Catholic University at noon.
